We Need To Reassess Our Culture

A cultural revaluation is essential for recognizing external shading as a critical component of modern building design rather than an optional extra. As sustainability and energy efficiency become increasingly central to our built environment, a shift in perspective is required from viewing shading merely as a decorative  to understanding it as a vital passive solution that optimises comfort, minimises energy consumption, and enhances environmental comfort. This revaluation calls on architects, engineers, and building owners to integrate shading strategically, appreciating its role in mitigating solar heat gain, reducing glare, and preserving the interior. In doing so, the traditional hierarchy of building features is reshaped, placing sustainability and occupant well-being at the forefront of design priorities.
